Why Choose a Korniche Upstand?
Engineered for Structural Integrity
The Korniche Upstand delivers dependable structural support for every Korniche rooflight, ensuring long-term stability and performance.
Maximise Thermal Efficiency
Our Upstand is manufactured from SIPs, or Structurally Insulated Panels. These are formed by sandwiching an insulating expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam core between two structural facings – typically structural grade OSB.
Rapid, Hassle-Free Installation
Ditch the time-consuming task of fabricating timber frames and fitting insulation. Our kit SIPS upstands slot into place quickly and easily with help from our installation guide and colour coding.
Maximise On-Site Efficiency
Reclaim valuable hours on every job. The Korniche Upstand arrives ready to install, allowing your team to focus on other critical tasks. No more cutting, measuring, or insulating required.
Precision Fit, Every Time
Experience a perfect integration with your Korniche rooflight, the Upstand takes away the guesswork, measuring, and time-consuming cutting. This precision-engineered upstand kit added during your KwikQuote, will be an exact fit for the product specified. For a flat rooflight it will even come pre-formed with the correct 5 degree angle for installation.
Get the Roof Ready, Faster
We understand the importance of keeping projects on schedule. That’s why we dispatch the Korniche Upstand ahead of the rooflight, allowing you to prepare an opening and streamline the overall installation process.
Understanding Your Roof System: Choosing the Right Upstand Height
Selecting the correct Korniche Upstand height is crucial and depends on the type of flat roof system you’re working with. Regardless of the system, Building Regulations stipulate a minimum upstand height of 150mm above the finished roof level.

Cold Roof Systems
Typically found in older buildings where upgrading to a warm roof system might be impractical, cold roof systems are less thermally efficient. In this setup, insulation is placed between and below the roof joists, held in place by the ceiling. Timber boards are then fixed directly onto the joists, ready for waterproofing.
For cold roof installations, the Korniche upstand (either flat for Lanterns or pitched for Flat Glass/FlatLite) is fixed to these boards before the waterproofing is applied. To ensure compliance with regulations, we recommend using a 150mm high upstand for cold roof systems, providing the necessary elevation above the finished roof level.

Warm Roof Systems
A more thermally efficient method commonly used in new builds and extensions, warm roof systems place the insulation above the joists. The construction involves a timber board deck on the joists, followed by a vapour control layer, then the insulation, and finally another timber board deck ready for waterproofing.
In a warm roof system, the Korniche upstand (flat for Lanterns or pitched for Flat Glass/FlatLite) is installed before the insulation, top deck, and waterproofing. This allows the upstand to be securely fixed to the structural timber deck. The insulation and subsequent deck are then installed around the upstand. To accommodate the typical insulation thickness in a warm roof, we recommend using a 300mm high upstand, which allows for approximately 140mm of insulation while still achieving the required 150mm minimum height above the finished roof.

The upstand for these products will be pitched at a 5-degree angle to facilitate water drainage. In this case, the specified height (150mm or 300mm) refers to the lower end of the pitched upstand.
Korniche Roof Lanterns
The upstand for Lantern rooflights will always have a flat top at the specified height (either 150mm or 300mm).
Ensure you select the appropriate Korniche Upstand height based on the roof system you are installing to guarantee regulatory compliance, optimal performance, and a professional finish.
Important Note on Firrings: If adding firrings after upstand installation, consider the final rooflight height. 200mm and 350mm upstands (offering an extra 50mm) are available to account for firrings. Always verify specifications.
